Shanghai Guotou Visits SST for In-Depth Tech Exchange
2025-02-13
On February 13, a delegation from Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Guotou), led by its Party Committee Secretary and Chairman Yuan Guohua, visited Shanghai Superconductor Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “SST”) to inspect the company's achievements in technological research and industrialization. The visit also included in-depth discussions on the future development of high-temperature superconducting materials and potential strategic cooperation. SST’s Chairman Ma Tao, General Manager Zhu Jiamin, and Deputy Chairman Hong Zhiyong accompanied the delegation, providing detailed introductions to the company’s technological breakthroughs, industrial layout, and global competitive strategy.
The group first toured SST exhibition hall to gain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s 14-year development journey since the transformation of scientific research achievements in 2011. As the first Chinese company to achieve large-scale production of second-generation high-temperature superconducting materials, SST has been deeply involved in national major scientific and technological projects. Its products are highly anticipated for their application prospects in areas such as nuclear fusion, superconducting cables, high-field scientific instruments, and ultra-high-speed maglev trains. During the visit to the production line and new equipment R&D center, Yuan Guohua paid particular attention to the company’s breakthroughs in the domestication of core equipment, especially the innovative achievements empowered by semiconductor-related technologies. He highly praised SST’s leading position in R&D, import substitution, and integration of upstream and downstream technologies.
At the symposium, Ma Tao outlined the company’s technological roadmap and development blueprint: from the industrialization of laboratory achievements to breaking international monopolies and becoming the world’s largest producer, and now moving towards a stage of “dual improvements in market share and operational efficiency.” He noted that the company has established strategic cooperation with top global institutions, covering diversified applications such as superconducting cables, power grid protection, and maglev transportation, and is accelerating its listing process.
Yuan Guohua highly affirmed the company’s industry status, stating that SST is not only a high-tech materials company but also a platform-type enterprise. The funds and innovation resources under Shanghai Guotou will fully support the company’s breakthroughs in technological innovation, equipment R&D, and market application. They will also collaborate with the government and industrial capital to further the “last-mile” leap from laboratory to commercialization of superconducting technology.
Participants in the symposium included representatives from the Shanghai Science and Technology Venture Capital Group, Guotou Empowerment, Guotou Future, and the Science and Innovation Industry Research Institute.
