Building More Application Scenarios for New Materials: Shanghai Municipal CPPCC Economic and Financial Committee Visits SST for Research and Investigation
2024-12-05
On December 4th, Xiao Guiyu, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC), led a delegation from the Economic and Financial Committee to visit Shanghai Superconductor Technology Co., Ltd. for a research trip, where they conducted on-site inspections of the company’s exhibition hall, front-end processes, and back-end testing sites, followed by a discussion and exchange.
Inspecting the exhibition hall of SST
Shanghai Superconductor is primarily engaged in the research and development, design, production, and sales of the second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes, and has become a leading company in the superconducting industry. Characterized by “zero electrical resistance” and “perfect diamagnetism”, high-temperature superconducting materials boast significant value in applications across various fields such as electricity, environmental protection, medical care, national defense, transportation, and large-scale scientific installations. During the inspection, the committee members showed a keen interest in understanding the technical details. The subsequent development prospects, including the next-generation technology improvement points and production capacity scale, were discussed enthusiastically and in detail from the exhibition hall to the meeting room.
Inspecting the front-end process
Ma Tao, chairman of Shanghai Superconductor, stated that the company will continue to improve the production process, enhance performance by increasing the electric current, and begin to create an upstream and downstream industrial cluster for high-temperature superconductors to promote high-quality development of China’s superconducting industry. “At present, China’s industrialized technology for high-temperature superconducting tapes is highly competitive globally. In order to expand in Shanghai as soon as possible, we are actively discussing land acquisition negotiations and other schemes with local government.” Ma Tao urgently hopes that the CPPCC can help to call for support for enterprises that already have the conditions for industrialization.
Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal CPPCC, Xiao Guiyu, speaking at the discussuion
During the discussion, Xiao Guiyu said that new materials industry is strategic and foundational, and also a key area of high-tech competition. In recent years, high-temperature superconductor industry in China has been thriving. As a friontier material explicitly developed by the state, high-temperature superconducting tapes can accelerate the engineering process of controlled nuclear fusion and meet the rigid electricity demands of urban power grids, providing new solutions to enhance the urban environmental quality. Xiao emphasized that to seize the forefront of future material development, support the advancement of new industrialization, and cultivate and new productive forces, Shanghai Superconductor should accelerate the construction of application scenarios for high-temperature superconducting materials to target future global market development.
The discussion was chaired by Yan Xu, director of the Economic and Financial Committee of the Shanghai Municipal CPPCC.
