Guangdong Power Grid Electric Power Research Institute Visited Shanghai Superconductor for Research and Exchange

On August 29th, a delegation from Electric Power Research Institute of Guangdong Power Grid Co., Ltd., including Wang Zhongao, Party Committee Secretary and Deputy Director, Xie Songyu, Deputy Chief Engineer, Liang Xiaobing, Deputy Chief Engineer, and a team of experts, visited Shanghai Superconductor(SST) for comprehensive and in-depth research and exchange activities. SST’s Chairman, Mr. Ma Tao, and Deputy Chairman, Dr. Hong Zhiyong, accompanied the visit. Both sides engaged in extensive and in-depth discussions on the research achievements of national key projects, the current status and development trends of superconducting materials.

The guests toured the production and testing workshops of Shanghai Superconductor, inspecting the production process and stringent quality control system of superconducting materials on-site. SST particularly highlighted its technical strength in the mass production and batch supply of second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes, as well as its innovative achievements and practical application cases in cutting-edge fields such as superconducting power and high-field magnets. In addition, both sides had an in-depth exchange and discussion on the progress of several global superconducting cable projects.

Leaders and experts from Guangdong Power Grid Electric Power Research Institute introduced the latest research trends in the field of power grid applications, and expressed affirmation and support for Shanghai Superconductor's active role in promoting significant demonstration projects such as superconducting cables and controlled nuclear fusion. They look forward to deepening cooperation with Shanghai Superconductor in the future, jointly promoting the implementation of more superconducting technology application projects, and contributing more to the progress of China's energy technology.

In recent years, Electric Power Research Institute of Guangdong Power Grid Company has continuously promoted the application of superconducting technology and has played a leading role in the R&D and application of superconducting power technology. Recently, the institute has not only successfully undertaken the national key special project of superconducting energy storage by the Ministry of Science and Technology but also smoothly initiated the demonstration application project of high-temperature superconducting direct current cables, demonstrating its strong strength and far-reaching influence in this field.
